The Cheapest VPS

YDGH has been in business for over 3 years now. Recently we launched TCVPS The Cheapest VPS. We currently offer the absolute cheapest virtual private servers available anywhere! For the quality, service, and support you get our plans are unbeatable! Our most popular package so far seems to be the $3.33 VPS with 512mb guaranteed ram! Followed very closely by all of our other plans! Yes, every plan we have seems to be selling out quickly! As a budget provider, we are still an unmanaged host. However we do offer 24 hour support with TCVPS. The Cheapest VPS is still run by Corey Manshack and Wayne Rhoton, so there may be a few times where support tickets are replied to slower than others.. However we are doing our best to answer tickets around the clock. We both have adjusted our sleep schedules to overlap in a way that allows us to answer tickets day and night!

Our plans for YDGH are most likely to either go with Premium Servers or maybe tailoring even more toward resellers. Such as managing inexpensive cpanel/WHM VPS’s for clients web hosting needs.

Dallas Tx Cheapest Master Reseller and Budget VPS Hosting Update 08-24-2012

Update for our Dallas Tx Cheapest Master Reseller and Chicago Budget VPS Hosting Clients:

As of today all of our budget or premium master resellers are required to have their own shared ip address. This will help the service be better for all of our customers in a few ways -

1) We will be able to track down spam email more effeciently.
2) If someone gets DDOSed the whole server will not be affected.
3) If one person sends spam email everyone will not be blacklisted.
4) We will be able to clear out rogue accounts reducing server load.

The only downside is that we will be adding $1/mo to your service fees. If you already have an ip address that you would like used for this purpose you can choose to do that. All resellers will be required within 72 hours to open a ticket in our ticket system to request this change to their account. If a ticket is not opened and the account is still on the old ip address ending in .21 we will assume the account is a rogue account and it will be suspended.

Chicago VPS Customers -

For a short period of time we will be running a special on ip addresses in this location. You can add additional ip addresses for only $0.50 per month. All you have to do is open a ticket to request how many additional ip addresses you would like. We will also be putting a little more stock in Chicago so if you have been waiting for that location to come up then now is your chance!

(The only condition to this is that if you already have $1/mo ips you must keep those for the duration you have the $0.50/mo ips. Plain and simple, we aren’t going to charge any less for the ips you already have and you aren’t allowed to cancel them if you keep some $0.50/mo ips.)

TS3 install not giving me a token!

YDGH recently setup our newest server s9 and I created a personal VPS on this dallas server to install teamspeak 3 to. So I installed Team Speak 3 for personal use, and the install seems to have gotten hung up! I did not get a token. The install seems to have stopped at server admin username / password and did not give me a teamspeak 3 admin token.

TS3 install no token

I tried completely reinstalling the virtual private server to default configuration and re-downloaded teamspeak 3 several times. Every time the ts3 install gets hung up at this same point and does not work!

To my understanding, you need to install teamspeak as a user not admin for security purposes. So I started by running the following commands. Each # represents a new line via putty / ssh.

#useradd ts3
#passwd ts3
(Entered my new password)
(Re-entered my new password)
#su ts3

(I also tried completely closing putty and re-opening it and logging directly into user ts3 on some of the re-installs)

#tar zxvf teamspeak3-server_linux-x86-
#cd teamspeak3-server_linux-x86

At this point TS3 server is installed. so the next command is to start Teamspeak 3 server.

#./ start

However, as pictured above it stops there! It never gives me the token I am suppose to get! Once I get this fixed I’ll post the solution! In the mean time if anyone has any suggestions let me know!

P.S. Corey is the “tech guy” so I will probably end up asking him tomorrow if I cant figure it out tonight!

Ok so after a little help from the community of, my teamspeak 3 server is now working!

Per the help I simply had to run the following commands.. Create /dev/shm then.
#mkdir /dev/shm
mount -t tmpfs tmpfs /dev/shm

This fixed my problem and another user told me for the first time running to use the minimal script

#./ createinifile=1

I then had to run the normal script one more time

#./ start

And vula! I was able to connect to my teamspeak 3 server!

Hope this helps someone!

How to Host websites on a Cheap VPS

This is an easy guide for how to host websites on your cheap vps! Since we are a budget VPS provider and configuring your vps for hosting websites is beyond our support. We do not handle 3rd party software or managing your VPS. However, I can give you this information to send you in the right direction.

You can definitely host websites on your cheap VPS using virtual hosts. This lets Apache serve content based on what URL the browser asks for.

How to add a virtual website step by step:

1. Log into your cheap VPS as root with putty or your choice of SSH clients.

2. Create a new directory for your website using the following command.
– mkdir /var/www/

3. Open the Apache config file via the vi text editor or any editor of your choice.
– vi /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

4. Add all of these lines below to the bottom of the file (Edit accordingly of course):

– ServerAdmin
– DocumentRoot /var/www/
– ServerName
– ErrorLog logs/
– CustomLog logs/ common

– ServerAdmin Enter your own email address here.
– DocumentRoot Your website files directory.
– ServerName Your main host name of the server goes here.
– ServerAlias A complete list of other host names that the site should be available on, separated by spaces
– ErrorLog Errors for the virtual host will go here.
– CustomLog Each hit to the virtual host goes here.

5. Save the file and exit the editor.

6. And your final step is to run this last command:
– service httpd reload

You can google hosting a website on VPS for more information on this.

Hopefully this gets you started in the right direction!

Also another alternative is we could change you to a Reseller where you can easily host websites without having to configure the vps, or you can install cPanel which is about a $15 software.

Vi Unix Editor on your Dallas VPS

The Vi Unix Editor is the default UNIX editor via command line on your budget VPS. If you plan on configuring your Dallas VPS (Virtual Private Server) you will definitely want to know how to use the Vi editor.

This post will only cover the absolute basics of using the Vi unix editor. Such as opening, creating, saving, and writing to a file.

Unix Vi Editor Modes

Command Mode: This mode can be accesed by opening a file using the command ‘vi file.conf’ without the ‘ on each side. Letters and combinations of letters are interpreted as commands.

Insert Mode: This mode is for editing text and inserting your own text into config files. You will either use the arrow keys to navigate or push the ‘Insert’ button on your keyboard.

Once in insert mode on your cheap Dallas VPS, you can use arrow keys to get to where you want to enter text and simply type text.

Line Mode: This mode can be accessed by pressing the ‘Esc’ button on your keyboard and type colon (J

Now you can quit, save, quit and save, or quit without saving.

:q simply quits if you have not made any changes
:wq write the file to disk and quit
:q! quit without saving
:w! yourfilenamegoeshere This will write all content fro the current file into ‘yourfilenamegoeshere’ and overwrite ‘yourfilenamegoeshere’
:n,m w! yourfilenamegoeshere writes all content from n to m into the file yourfilenamegoeshere, and overwrites ‘yourfilenamegoeshere’

Good luck with your Dallas VPS!

How to find a cheap and reliable low end vps

Finding a cheap and reliable low end vps can be a challenge! Many lower end vps’s can be very slow and unreliable! Rather than simply boasting about how good YDGH is, I am going to link to several other sources of finding some of the cheapest lower end vps’s! A low end vps or low end box is basically any virtual private server thats under $10 or in some cases websites put lower limits. For example LowEndBox requires all offers to be under $7. What you get for that very low cost is a virtual private server with a wide range of specs. Could be 64mb of ram or could be 1gb of ram. Could be 1gb of disk space on a cheap dedicated server, or it could be 100gb of raid protected disk space on a high end quality server! It all depends. But how do you know which budget vps offer is best?
Low End VPS
Well, its really hard to decide on a lower end virtual server because there are so many companies offering cheap vps servers! And most of these are cheaper than some shared hosting! So as many people will agree one of the best things to do is look at reviews. Keep in mind how old or new the reviews are, and never just take the first review as solid evidence of which provider to use! Read multiple reviews on the low end provider of virtual servers (vps) to determine which provider will be best for your needs! One great source of reviews is Web Hosting Talk be sure to read reviews carefully and again read more than one review! Also as I mentioned LEB earlier for a great source of finding the cheapest vps to fit your needs, Low End Talk and Digital Point are a great source of talking and getting opinions before you buy. I personally would recommend talking on some of these forums/websites before making any purchase including setting up your budget VPS with YDGH!

Good luck with your lower end VPS hunt and if you have any questions or need any help finding the right VPS for your needs DO NOT hesitate to contact us any time! We offer some of the cheapest Dallas VPS, Chicago VPS, and LA VPS at this time.

YDGH Newsletter Issue #2

Response From Last Weeks Newsletter

We had a great response from last weeks newsletter promotional codes, so that is something that we are going to continue offering in our newsletters that we send out. A few things that we weren’t expecting though is that a few of you absolutely did not want to receive our newsletter! Since we do not want to be an intrusion in your email box we have created a program to track our email campaigns. You should now see an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter. If you emailed us last week to exclude you, we didn’t have any way of excluding you from our newsletter so after you unsubscribe today this will be the last time you receive communication from us.

What’s new at YDGH?

The IRC chat room is going to be discontinued until someone expresses interest in it further. It remains pretty much empty, even after the advertisement to our broad userbase in the last newsletter. We flipped our design over to use a white color instead of the dreary black to be more professional, and the update to the master reseller page has been put on hold. We are also working on our own custom billing system due to the attacks on WHMCS. We found that some things in WHMCS don’t work the way we want them to, so having this system will give us more flexibility. The VPS product page has had yet another change that we are experimenting with. We changed base ram on the first package to 768MB of ram, and second package to 1512MB of ram (with no swap).

Ubuntu 11.10 Template Bug in OpenVZ

There is a bug in Ubuntu 11.10 that causes init to use 100% cpu due to there not being a /dev/console in OpenVZ. Source: Simply running apt-get update && apt-get upgrade will rectify the issue following a reboot, because Ubuntu released an offical fix. If we see your machine’s init running 100% CPU we automatically fix this for you, but be aware of the issue.

Password Safety

In today’s time there are tons of ways hackers or crackers can gain access to your personal information. Your password is just one of those ways. Having an insecure password that is used across all of your accounts is just asking for trouble, but a lot of people choose to partake in this practice.

Recently it was brought to my attention once again that there are programs out there that will store your passwords and encrypt them on the local machine. I knew of these programs I just hadn’t used them in a while. So I went and started to use some of the ones  available out there.

I had a problem with the way I used passwords. I used pretty much one password with a few variations on the end for every account. All this did was lock me out of my accounts because I would forget what variation I used for a certain website. This is dumb, don’t repeat my mistakes. Check out the following comic for some insight on password strengths as well -

Credit where due, this is from I just pasted the image here for convenience. Long story short – I now use an easy to remember password phrase that has a few numbers and symbols and are about 30 plus characters long.

Although, I do not use this same password across all of my accounts. This is where the password manager program comes into play. Most password managers have a place where you can generate a password. I went to all of my accounts and changed the passwords to a password that was generated by the secure password manager. Now I do not have one password for all of them, and my passwords are stored in a safe and secure location encrypted on the local machine non web accessible.

I went through a few programs looking for the perfect password manager. I tried the program ‘password safe’ and it worked well but there was no version for android etc, and I need to use my passwords on all of the devices I have. I tried ‘last pass’ but it seems like it is web based and that just doesn’t seem secure to me. I looked a little deeper and found KeePass. So far this has been the best password manager and encrypter I have found. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a safe password manager for themselves.

What’s new at YDGH?

We’ve been hard at work getting the service you want delivered and polished just the way you like it! We’ve made a few changes to our VPS packages that we thought everyone might want to know about. Previously we did not display our port speed on the ordering page for your vps. It is in plain view now so that you know just how fast to expect your server to be. Each server once again comes with two ipv4 addresses. All specs have been increased. Starting level VPS now includes 512mb/1024mb ram and 30gb of raid protected disk space.

What are future plans for YDGH?

Most of you may already know that we have plans to get our own allocations from Arin, but there have been more setbacks. We were qualifying under the multihomed policy for Arin and were approved but there were issues with Cogent in acquiring bandwidth for this purpose. We are waiting until we qualify under the ‘non multihomed’ Arin policy at this time. This shouldn’t take to much longer and it’s estimated that we will have Arin allocations by 8/12. Once this happens we will increase the cap on ip addresses per vps to 32 to accommodate our larger customers. The price per ip will be reduced by half as well bringing the total to $0.50 per ip address. This change will be global for vps customers, master reseller customers, and all other web hosting services we currently offer.

Our Master Reseller and Alpha Reseller landing pages are going to be getting a facelift in the coming days to better match the quality that we have come to require on our site as seen on our VPS landing page. This will be a major improvement and make ordering a master or alpha reseller package a breeze.

As some of you may or may not know, we have a small community area for you linked on our website menu via IRC (internet relay chat). We are using the Mibbit network so that we can connect with the Mibbit web based chat. In the past we were on Freenode and it wasn’t very inviting to new users. You can catch Wayne and I in there accepting questions, feedback and just being a part of the community. We’d love to see you there! Just head to our home page and hit the ‘YDGH Chat’ link in the menu.

Newsletter Feedback and Promo Codes!

If you would like to send us some feedback about our services, this newsletter, or to see a certain segment featured, feel free to email us . We are also looking for volunteers to help with segments in our newsletter. Tell your friends about these special insider promo codes we are going to be running in our newsletter only every week!
